I became an Independent ACN Rep in 1995 at the urging of a family member. I thought it made sense to try to take some money back from the rich big three telephone companies, and wanted to show some support. Deregulation had created opportunities for people to save on exhorbitant per minute calling rates through newer companies like ACN. Right after I joined ACN though I found Cognigen via Google, which offered long distance rates at a lower cost than ACN, with zero Rep signup or recurring fees whatsoever. Cognigen Independent Reps were always in profit on their very first sale, normally to themselves, whereas ACN Independent Reps had to reach a certain sales volume just to reach break-even to recover the initial signup fee and ongoing monthly costs.
